Neurofeedback Results: A Realistic Timeline for What to Expect
Sessions 1–5: Orientation
The first phase of neurofeedback is primarily about establishing your baseline and letting your brain begin to recognize the feedback signal. Many clients notice very little during this phase — and that's normal. A subset of clients report mild fatigue after their first 1–3 sessions as the brain encounters a new type of stimulation. This passes quickly and is not a cause for concern.
Occasionally, a client will notice an early positive change — improved sleep, a single unusually clear-headed day — within the first few sessions. Take note of these; they're early signals that the training is engaging the right circuits.
Sessions 6–15: Early gains
This is typically when meaningful changes begin to emerge. The most commonly reported early improvements are in sleep quality — clients fall asleep more easily, sleep more deeply, and wake feeling more refreshed. Anxiety begins to ease. Mornings feel clearer. People around you may notice changes before you fully register them yourself.
We review your session data carefully during this phase and often make protocol adjustments based on how your brain is responding.
Sessions 16–40: Consolidation
In the middle and later phases of training, gains typically become more robust and consistent. Memory, word retrieval, emotional regulation, and sustained attention continue to improve. The changes begin to feel less like 'good days' and more like a new, more stable baseline.
We also track your progress with periodic objective measures and, for many clients, a follow-up QEEG brain map that visually demonstrates the changes training has produced — one of the most satisfying moments in the process.
